A THURNSCOE care home wants to help make the residents' Christmas extra-special by asking for donations of gifts.

Dearnlea Park Care Home, on Park Road wants to create gift boxes for its residents to help cheer them up this Christmas.

“Normally we fundraise to be able to get our residents a present each,” said activities co-ordinator Kim Davies. “But with the pandemic can't do that this year.

“We didn't want any residents to miss out so we came up with the Santa to a Senior scheme.”

Kim, and other activities co-ordinator Charlotte Thwaites, came up with the scheme to encourage the local community to donate small gifts so that each resident had a present come Christmas morning.

“Unfortunately some residents don't get presents so we always try to make sure that they have something to open.

“We are appealing for small gifts to go in a gift box that we will give to each resident. Please only give as much as you can – every small thing will help.”

The home is looking for soaps and shower gels, socks, chocolates, and Christmas cards amongst other items that would help cheer the residents up.

If you would like to take part, donations can be made at the reception of the home.
