A SERIES of videos have been created to help new riders in Barnsley to help maintain their bikes.

South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership (SYSRP) teamed up with local YouTubers from Mech’ It Better to create a series of videos of back-to-basic maintenance for new riders.

Mech It’ Better was created by friends John Hanson and Ciaran Baker to document their tinkerings with bikes and scooters.

They teamed up with SYSRP to help give young riders the confidence to carry out simple vehicle checks.

Joanne Wehrle, manager of SYSRP, said: “Whether it’s just for fun, travelling to work, college, or to improve your mental well-being, there are so many great things about riding a bike or scooter.

“But like any mechanical device, they need some basic checks to ensure that they stop, go, and turn as they should.

“That’s why we’ve teamed up with John and Ciaran, to produce a series of how-to guides in their usual no-nonsense Yorkshire style, specially aimed at new 16-24-year-old young riders.”

Topics of the videos include ‘BOLT’, Brake, Oil, Lights and Tyre checks and adjustments as well as what basic tools to have.

The project forms part of the partnership’s work throughout the year to promote safety for scooter and motorbike riders.
