BARNSLEY police have focussed patrols on an antisocial behaviour ‘hotspot’ in the town centre following multiple reports.

This week, the Barnsley Central Neighbourhood Policing Team have been targeting drug and alcohol misuse on Peel Square after receiving reports from residents.

During the patrol, four stop and searches were carried out - resulting in the arrest of a 36-year-old male who was in possession of a lockable flick knife.

Although, it was not only crime that the officers dealt with.

A spokesperson from the Barnsley Central team said: “We carried out a reassurance visit to an elderly gentleman who had been victim of a theft where his mobility scooter had been stolen.

“Enquiries are progressing in relation to an arson which took place on Peel Parade in the early hours of September 23.

“We also assisted an elderly lady who had become confused. We conveyed her to her home address and ensured she was safe and well and in the care of her loved ones.”
