BOSSES at a Dodworth-based wholesale store have said they will refuse service to anyone not wearing a face mask even if they are exempt under the government guidelines.

KDA Wholesale, situtated on the Fall Bank Industrial Estate, took to Facebook yesterday (September 24) to let customers know that face masks are mandatory, and anyone not wearing them will be asked to leave the premises.

Cliff Tibble, of KDA Wholesale, said: “Out of respect for our staff, our superb NHS, care support workers, the vulnerable whether young or old - from September 28, KDA Wholesale are making it company policy for people to enter our premises and be served they must wear a face mask or visor.

“We are deeply concerned that vulnerable people are at a greater risk of contracting a life threatening illness.

“We fully understand people have exemptions for a reason and we feel these people are more vulnerable than anyone and so this action is to protect them, other people and our staff.

“If any person is offended by this action, we would respectfully like them to buy their goods elsewhere.

“We previously closed for 15 weeks because we thought it was the right thing to do for our staff, their families and our customers and their families, at a time when Barnsley only had 11 coronavirus cases.

“We also believe what we are doing now is the right thing to do for our staff and customers.

“At the time of reopening, we asked customers to be respectful of any restrictions we have in place and that is still the case.

“When we feel it is safe to ease the restriction, we will do so. We apologise for any inconvenience to our customers.

“We hope the majority of people will be supportive of what we are trying to achieve, which is to save family and loved ones lives, prevent unnecessary suffering, trauma and anguish and ease the burden on the NHS and care support workers.”
