A COLOURFUL 'yarn-bombed' bus will be heading to multiple destinations across Barnsley today to help bring a smile to those who are shielding.

The Stagecoach bus will visit Barnsley today (September 22) on its tour of the country.

The bus was organised by magazine, The People's Friend, and was created with the help of knitters across the country.

Angela Gilchrist, editorial director of The People’s Friend, said: “In our 150-year history, 2020 has been one of the hardest, in particular having to stay away from family and friends.

“This year, we want to go the extra mile, literally, and thanks to Stagecoach, we will bring the fun and friendship found in the magazine to the streets of Barnsley, with our very own yarn-bombed bus.”

The bus also aims to raise funds for a telephone befriending service, Call Companions, which was launched in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Call Companions offers regular calls to vulnerable people to help them to stay connected to the outside world.

The yarn-bombed bus will visit Barnsley Town Centre, Tankersley, Shafton, and Athersley and will stop off at care homes along the way.
