BARNSLEY Hospital has revealed that more than 200 babies were born last month with more than half of the newborns being girls.

The midwifery unit at the hospital reveal monthly figures detailing the different types of births throughout the month.

The team reported that 232 women gave birth throughout August, with the busiest day being August 27 where 15 babies were born.

There were more girls born than boys, with 124 compared to 109.

During August, there were 12 water births, two home births and a single set of twins.

The heaviest baby weighed 11 pounds, four ounces, whereas the smallest was born two pounds, eight ounces.
