A THIRD defibrillator fitted in the Darton East ward has been unveiled – and has already been used.
This comes after the Darton East Ward Alliance teamed up with the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to donate the funds needed to install the lifesaving equipment in the area.
Last year, the Barnsley Healthy Hearts charity donated a sum to the Yorkshire Ambulance Service towards the installation of public access defibrillators across the borough.
The defibrillator has been fitted outside the Lidl supermarket in Mapplewell and in the short time it’s been in operation, it has already been used.
Coun Steve Hunt, who chairs the ward alliance, hopes the third defibrillator in the area will help to save lives 24 hours a day.
He said: “I would like to thank Barnsley Healthy Hearts, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Mapplewell’s Lidl and the Darton East Ward Alliance for making this new defibrillator a reality.
“Thanks also to the Mapplewell and Staincross first responders who will be taking on the guardian role for the defibrillator which involves undertaking weekly checks to ensure that it’s always rescue-ready.”
