A GROUP of youngsters and volunteers gave a garden at a local care home in Athersley a much-needed spruce-up.

The group, all taking part in the National Citizenship Service’s programme and restorative justice charity, Remedi, gave a makeover to Lindhurst Lodge’s garden.

The transformation is part of the ‘Keep Doing Good’ social action initiative supported by the council.

On Friday (August 21), the garden was turned into a colourful place for residents to meet up with their relatives once it is safe to do so with new colourful fencing, planters, giant games area and unique wall art.

The volunteers have also put together care packages for all residents and staff at the home.

Now the project is complete, volunteers from Remedi will maintain the garden through the community reparation they oversee with the Barnsley Youth Offending Team.
