RESIDENTS at a Mapplewell care home were surprised to receive handmade cards to help cheer them up amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Every resident at Mapplewell Manor Care Home received on Friday (August 14) a card sent from Janet Cupples who lives in Derbyshire to help raise spirits in the home and to brighten the day of residents who may not have family to speak to.

“I thought it was a lovely gesture,” said activities co-ordinator, Helen Smith. “Things have been difficult with the virus because residents haven't been able to see their families as often so it was lovely for them to receive such lovely cards.”

One of the residents, Brian Richardson, said the card brightened his day.

“I thought it was very nice. Some people here are on their own and it cheered them up greatly. I don't know how they got here, but we are all grateful for them, they are lovely.”
