A BOX full of free fruit and vegetables will be delivered to 30 households a week in a new scheme supported by councillors.

The North Area Council, alongside the Darton East Ward Alliance, will deliver boxes of fresh produce to homes across Mapplewell, Staincross, Windhill, Woolley Colliery and Darton.

During the summer holidays, residents are encouraged to email the team if they think they would benefit from the scheme.

Once it’s delivered, recipients are encouraged to share a photo with the box.

A spokesperson from the North Area Council said: “Over the summer holidays, the Darton East Ward Alliance is encouraging families living in the area to have fun, get active and eat more fresh fruit and vegetables.

“Boxes are limited to 30 per week and will be done on a first come served basis.

“Orders need to be made by noon each Tuesday. Free delivery of the boxes will be made every Thursday.

“All we ask is that you share your photos of you doing your activities and what you make with your fruit and vegetable box.”
