A KENDRAY resident has been praised for his ‘selfless’ efforts to improve his local area by going litter-picking every night.

Ian Lane, who resides at Lavender Court in Kendray, has been using his spare time to keep the housing estate clean during lockdown.

The 54-year-old said: “I love my voluntary job and really enjoy doing it.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me to carry out this work. It’s the best voluntary job I’ve ever had.”

Danny Gormanly, the scheme manager at Lavender Court, has been impressed with Ian’s efforts to improve his surroundings.

He said: “Ian is a great example to us all and is doing this important work on a voluntary basis.”

Coun Andrew Gillis, for the Stairfoot ward, presented Ian with an award of recognition from the local ward alliance for his efforts.

Coun Gillis added: “For Ian’s services to the local community and the excellent work that Ian has carried out, I’m proud to have awarded this certificate on behalf of the ward alliance to him.”
