MOVIE fans can rejoice as Parkway Cinema is set to open its doors next Friday with new social distancing measures.

During the closure, the cinema carried out a number of refurbishments and redecoration - including upgrading both the sound systems and additional toilet facilities.

The cinema will open with social distancing in place, sanitising stations and protective screens at all sales points.

A reduced food and drink menu will be on offer and the cinema advise to book tickets in advance.

Director Rob Younger said: “Following the successful reopening of our sister cinemas in Beverley, Cleethorpes, Louth and Richmond, I am delighted to announce that Barnsley will be open very soon.

“My staff and I will be delighted to welcome you into a familiar, but safer environment, with the same great service and value.”

The film shown at the reopening will be Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, as it is 100 years since film was first shown on the site - in the former Empire theatre.
