A VOLUNTEER group from Barnsley Museums has been shortlisted for an award which recognises their hardwork.

The team of young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) has been working at Worsbrough Mill Country Park to help improve the outside spaces.

They have been shortlisted for the Museums and Heritage Award in the category, volunteer team of the year.

The group has been supported by Opening Doors and Qdos Creates and were nominated in recognition of their efforts in making wildlife habitats and birdboxes, protecting the environment in the park, creating artistic interpretation for the site and fundraising more than £100.

Coun Tim Cheetham, cabinet spokesperson for place said: “We are extremely grateful to the dedicated team of volunteers at Barnsley Museums who are committed to helping us improve our five free sites in many ways.

“The team at Worsbrough have done amazing things to support the visitor attraction and we are delighted that they will be working alongside us in the future.

“They are truly deserving of the nomination which recognises the importance of the contributions they make.”

Winners of the award will be announced at an online ceremony on Tuesday, September 22.
