A MAN who was shocked by the death of George Floyd has organised a peaceful gathering in his memory.

Mason Atkinson, 21, has organised a peaceful remembrance gathering to remember American George Floyd who died last week, and to protest institutionalised racism in the UK.

“What is happening in America shocked me,” said Mason, from Athersley North. “I wanted to do something to show solidarity with the movement and to show that racism happens in England too.

“I want to show that the people of Barnsley care about what is happening and to spread the message that racism won’t be tolerated.”

The remembrance gathering will take place outside the town hall on Sunday at 2pm.
