A FISHING club’s members in Barnsley went virtual to raise money for staff at Barnsley Hospital.

Worsbrough Reservoir’s fishermen have raised £500 so far for the NHS, and the aim is to raise more.

Brett Clarke, 37, created the scheme as a way to help frontline workers while keeping the members of the group in contact with each other.

He said: “Obviously we’re not allowed to go fishing at the moment, so the idea popped into my head about how to raise money for a great cause by doing something we all love.

“It’s basically an excel spreadsheet that allows us all to compete together, and the winner takes home a share of the prize pot.

“It’s £5 per entry and we’ve managed to raise a total of £500 so far which is great.”

Brett, who grew up in Hoyland but now lives in Rotherham, has been involved with the group for more than three years.

“If we’re able to raise some more money for the hospital then that’s great, they’re a huge help to us all during this time,” he added.

“Helping the heroes on the frontline is really important, so I hope everyone can come together.”
