A COUNCILLOR who decided to create a community greenspace after his application was rejected at a local ward alliance meeting has unveiled the new garden.
Coun Harry Spence applied for a grant from the Darton East Ward Alliance twice for his idea for a community garden outside Mapplewell Co-op but was rejected both times.
Coun Spence was able to secure some funds from local businesses and the garden was unveiled on Saturday.
He said: “The garden has received a good response so far and I’ve had a lot of people say how good it looks.
“I want to thank the volunteers and children who came along and we are now looking to place some benches in the garden which I am currently raising money for.
“I’ve had a name plaque made, and intend to put every person or business that has made a donation onto it.”
