A SHOTGUN was uncovered after police interrupted a drug deal.

Officers were called to Pontefract Road, Barnsley, on Saturday at 1.41pm following reports that a drug deal was taking place from a car.

When they arrived, a black Citroen C3 and grey Ford Mondeo were recovered for forensic purposes and three men were arrested.

The occupants of the cars were believed to be linked to a previous incident on Yews Lane in Barnsley in which threats involving a shot gun were reported, police confirmed.

Anthony Medlam, 32, and David James, 37, both of no fixed abode, were arrested and later charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or harm before being bailed.

The third man, an unnamed 47-year-old, was arrested and also released on bail.
