A CONSTRUCTION company has donated money towards an event which celebrates the LGBT+ community.

Henry Boot Construction were approached by the Pride Barnsley committee who were looking for sponsors for this year’s event, which will take place in July.

Pride Barnsley launched in 2009 and promotes and celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer life, equality, social and self acceptance, legal rights, achievements and pride within Barnsley.

This year will be the 11th event to be held in Barnsley and will take place on Wellington Street for the fourth consecutive year.

The 2020 Pride Barnsley has the theme Red, Gold and Queen, paying tribute to Liam Mills, who went by the drag name Tess Tickle, who died after complications with diabetes in September last year and was instrumental in setting up Barnsley Pride.

Nick Cox, operations manager at Pride Barnsley said: “We were looking for big players to sponsor this year’s Pride Barnsley event and we are delighted that Henry Boot have agreed to help us.

“It’s a massive chunk towards the amount we need to make this year’s event a success and to receive such a generous amount from them is amazing.

“It’s very important that we have this type of event for the LGBT+ as they are a big part of our community. It’s all about inclusion as it’s the way forward. This event is about showing people who they are, what they are and what they’re about and this donation will help us achieve that.”

Ryan O’Loughlin, director at Henry Boot Construction Ltd, said: “Henry Boot Construction are delighted to be able to contribute to this year’s Pride Event in Barnsley.

“At Henry Boot we champion diversity and aim to provide a working environment where our staff and business partners feel valued, regardless of their sexuality. We also have an important role to play in raising awareness of LGBT+ in construction and the communities in which we work. Barnsley Pride is part of this and we are sure it will be an amazing success.”
