A MAN has died after being struck by a train.

Emergency services were called to Goldthorpe Railway station on Wednesday at 12.48pm following reports that a person had been struck by a train.

Paramedics attended but the man, in his 40s, was confirmed dead at the scene.

Trains were not able to travel through Rotherham, Swinton, Bolton-on-Dearne, Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe, Moorthorpe, Fitzwilliam and Sandal and Agbrigg, and faced up to 60 minute delays and cancellations.

Trains from Wakefield Westgate went straight to Meadowhall or Sheffield.

A spokesman from the British Transport Police said: “The incident is not being treated as suspicious and next of kin have been informed. A file has been prepared for the coroner.”
