ALDI stores across Barnsley are now donating surplus food to local groups that redistribute supplies to vulnerable people in the area.

The new partnership comes after a successful trial undertaken by the supermarket and community engagement platform, Neighbourly, and will help local charities such as the Barnsley Hospice and Mencap Barnsley.

Aldi has now paired up with the Birdwell, Cudworth and Goldthorpe stores to collect surplus food up to five days a week and each store is donating perishable items such as fresh fruit and veg, long life items and baked goods.

The trial started in January and the success of it has seen it rolled out across Aldi’s entire estate.

Any local charities in Barnsley that are wanting to partner up with an Aldi store can contact aldi@neighbourly.com to apply.
