BARNSLEY Council celebrated community spirit in the town as part of ‘Love Where You Live’ week.

The week was part of the council’s £3.5m investment into local areas and ran until Sunday.

It aimed to give local people the chance to meet new groups and faces, volunteer or try something new.

Some of the week’s activities included tai chi, walking football and knit-and-natter sessions.

Coun Wendy Cain, cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, said: “Love Where You Live isn’t just about investing in local spaces, it’s about investing in people, pride and the places and communities we call home.

“It’s a celebration of everything that makes Barnsley’s communities strong – the volunteers, the local groups, the neighbours who look out for one another, the fantastic people who make up our borough.

“We’re proud to support the things that bring communities together.”
