BARNSLEY will be celebrating Armed Forces Day on Saturday with a military parade through Cheapside and armed forces themed activities in the Glass Works Square.
Starting at 10.25am, the military parade will set off from the top of New Street, along Cheapside and finishing in the Glass Works Square.
There will be live performances by the Yorkshire Military Band at 11am and Viva La Vintage at 2.30pm. Following the parade, families and children will be able to get involved in various armed forces themed activities, including airsoft range, climbing wall, face painting and more.
The day is a great opportunity to learn more about the armed forces and show support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community – from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.
The Mayor of Barnsley, Coun John Clarke said: “We are very excited to be bringing this event to Barnsley town centre once again, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for our communities to get together and celebrate our armed forces.
“Everyone is welcome to join us at the Glass Works Square, enjoy the entertainment, get stuck into a range of armed forces themed activities, and show support for those who make up the armed forces community in Barnsley.”
There will be some road closures to allow the event to take place.
Westgate will be closed from 7am until 4pm and Albert Street and New Street will be closed from 9am until 1pm. On-street parking on these streets will be suspended from the early hours of Saturday.
