BARNSLEY’S only Conservative MP Miriam Cates has pledged to support Silkstone residents by bringing the area’s roads up to scratch.

Mrs Cates, who represents the Penistone and Stocksbridge constituency, said she will to continue to work with residents about the issue of potholes – and she says she’s not taking the situation lightly.

She said: “I’ve been speaking to residents in Silkstone and surrounding areas recently and know just how much of a problem potholes and road surface quality have become.

“The government has recently announced an additional £4m in road resurfacing funding for councils in South Yorkshire and I’m working with Coun Robert Barnard in Penistone East to make sure our area is getting the funding it needs to fix our local roads.

“I’ll continue to respond to resident concerns across the constituency to make sure our roads are safe and up to scratch.”
