RESIDENTS in the Dearne are being encouraged to attend a skills and employability event in Goldthorpe later this month.

Taking place between 9.30am and 3pm on April 18 at Goldthorpe Market, locals will have the chance to speak to organisations and explore options for learning, training, work and volunteering. Everyone is welcome to attend the event, no matter their background or starting point.

On the day, there will be the chance to meet employers at the market stalls on the Horse and Groom Square. They can share information about what it’s like to work in a range of sectors. They also have advice about how to get started and insight into training or qualifications that can help.

Residents can also discover learning, skills and qualification options at Goldthorpe Library.

And there will be the chance to have a coffee and chat while getting to know some of the services and organisations that could support you at Goldthorpe Salvation Army.

Kathy McArdle, Service Director for Regeneration and Culture, said: “This is a great chance to see what’s possible, get advice, and boost your confidence. It’s really important that Barnsley residents know what’s available, so they can benefit from improved skills and employability.

"Our teams and partners are looking forward to meeting you at this event to share information about how you can develop skills that can help in everyday life. Their support and guidance can make a big difference to enable people to set and achieve their own goals for life and work. Please do come along and get the most out of this event.”
