BARNSLEY Council has said that extensive work has been carried out over the last financial year through the accelerated Highways Capital Programme.
The council says that a £20 million investment has made significant improvements to the roads in a number of key areas across the borough.
Work that has been completed as part of the scheme includes:
Carriageway resurfacing at the A628 Westway and Townend Roundabout.
Carriageway resurfacing, including drainage repairs, minor footway works and new road markings, on A635 Old Mill Lane.
Resurfacing at A628 Dodworth Road.
Resurfacing on the A637 in Darton as well as sections of Church Street and Church Field Lane.
Resurfacing and road markings on Queens Road.
Footway widening and carriageway resurfacing on Bala Street.
Carriageway resurfacing on Keresforth Hall and Hill Road.
Resurfacing works at Gawber Road, Victoria Road and Sackville Street.
Safety improvements, including series of speed cushions and other features, have been installed to reduce vehicle speeds and improve road safety at Burton Road.
Resurfacing on Sheffield Road, Springvale.
Carlton Road crossroads resurfacing.
Resurfacing on Bridge Street, St Marys Street and Market Street.
Our Retread programme is now complete, with three schemes moving into the next financial year’s programme.
Footway works on the A61 Sheffield Road and Barnsley Road, Darton.
Resurfacing work on Spark Lane in Mapplewell and on Dearne Hall Road in Barugh.
A council spokesman said: “We understand that the schemes may have caused temporary inconvenience while work was taking place, but the improvements will bring long-term benefits to our communities. We would like to thank all residents, businesses and road users who were impacted by these schemes for their patience and co-operation.”
