MEDICS are organising activities across the borough to help people make 2024 the year they go smoke-free.
Throughout the year, NHS Yorkshire Smokefree Barnsley are offering a range of free confidential support to help locals kick the habit.
Throughout 2024, they will be hosting weekly face-to-face clinics across Barnsley, where you can speak to their friendly, trained advisors and get support on your quitting journey. They’ll be popping up everywhere from local libraries to family centres.
Through the government’s new Swap to Stop scheme, they will also be offering vaping products to replace smoking – these are free for the first four weeks of a smoker’s attempt to quit.
Councillor Wendy Cain, cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, said: “We’re committed to making smoking invisible in Barnsley and making sure everyone in our communities can get the right support for them on their quitting journey.
“While 84 per cent of people in Barnsley currently don’t smoke, we want to encourage more smokers to come forward and find out what support is out there to help them if they’re thinking about quitting.
“It’s great to see new initiatives launching in Barnsley to help people quit smoking in ways that suit their needs, so get in touch with the team today to find out how they could help you.”
