FIREFIGHTERS dealt with several deliberate car fires last week.

Two cars were deliberately set alight within minutes of each other last Thursday night.

Firefighters from Cudworth station first arrived on Well Lane, Monk Bretton, to extinguish the blaze, before responding to another incident on Garden House Close less than ten minutes later.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “It’s believed both fires were started deliberately. Anyone with information about people starting fires in their area should call Firestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”

A car was also deliberately set alight in Lundwood in the early hours of New Year’s Day. A fire crew from Cudworth station arrived on Pontefract Road, at 2am, to extinguish the blaze. They left the scene at 2.30am.

Firefighers also attended when a car was deliberately set alight in Smithies in the early hours of Saturday morning. A fire crew from Cudworth station arrived on Emley View, at 12.45am, to extinguish the blaze. They left the scene at 1.25am.

Another vehicle was deliberately set alight in Thurnscoe last week. Upon arrival on Clayton Lane, at 9.32pm on Wednesday night, the crew from Dearne station extinguished the blaze. They left the scene at 10.08pm.

A car was deliberately set alight in Athersley North on Sunday morning. Upon arrival on Lindhurst Road, at 12.15am, the crew from Cudworth station extinguished the blaze. They came away at 12.50am.

Also, a garage was set alight in Lundwood last Friday night. Firefighters from Cudworth, Barnsley and Tankersley stations arrived on Martins Road, at 9pm. They extinguished the blaze and left the scene at 10.05pm.
