HOYLAND couple Graham and Carol Bower celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday.
The well-known couple are both Hoyland born and bred and have lived there all their married life.
Graham worked for British Steel from leaving school until his retirement and Carol worked at numerous branches of the Co-op but worked from the day the Hoyland Co-op opened until her retirement, becoming known as ‘Co-op Carol’ to many local residents.
Graham is known as Hoyland’s road runner due to the numerous marathons he has run over the years.
He is still a keen fitness man at the age of 81 doing over 20 miles plus on his sports bike as often as the weather permits.
The couple, both avid Sheffield Wednesday fans, will be celebrating their anniversary later in the year with a holiday to Hotel Volcano, Las Americas, in Tenerife where they have been going for over 30 years.
Carol also celebrates her 80th birthday in December.
The couple were delighted to receive a card from King Charles and Queen Camilla to mark their special day.
The couple have a daughter Tracy who works in civil engineering and son Jamie, who has had a distinguished career of 22 years in the Light Dragoons regiment of the British Army.
Jamie was proudly given Freedom of Barnsley with his regiment after many tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
They also have a granddaughter Simone and great-granddaughter Isla Rae, aged three, who keeps them on their toes and youthful.
