MORE than £1,300 was raised for a local mental health charity last Saturday as locals came together to remember a popular pub landlord.
It was 43-year-old Gareth Hart’s dream to run the Thurnscoe Tap – but that dream was crushed earlier this year.
On April 6, police were made aware of an altercation near Fantasy Grill and Balti on Sea Lane in Ingoldmells.
Following reports of an altercation at around 1am, police found him near a takeaway with a stab wound to the chest.
Gareth was found injured and died shortly afterwards – leaving all those who knew and loved him heartbroken.
Hundreds of people turned up to pay their respects on Saturday in a charity match in his honour – and the group raised more than £1,300.
Darryl Hand, one of the event’s organisers, said: “What a village we’ve got.
“It was an incredible turnout with 987 people through the gates.
“Thank you to all the lads that played, stall holders and everyone that helped in any way.”
All the funds raised will be going to local men’s mental health charity Andy’s Man Club – a charity close to Gareth’s heart.
