FOUR Barnsley College students have shown off their ability at a prestigious construction competition.

Thomas Cooze took the top prize in the carpentry section, with fellow construction student George Robson in second place, at the SkillBuild regional qualifiers held at the college’s construction centre.

Thomas and George took the top two places for displaying excellent technical skills, good time management, their approach to problem solving and ability to work under pressure.

Shaun Goddard and Alisha Smith continued the college’s success in the bricklaying round, in which they were respectively placed second and third.

Thomas said: “I was really pleased to win the carpentry section and being involved in the competition was a valuable experience.

“I didn’t think too much about winning while the competition was in progress, I just got on with it and I found it helpful that everyone was friendly.”
