A PENISTONE care home which hosted a community gala earlier this month raised more than £1,700 for their residents’ fund.

Buckingham, on Green Lane, hosted the event on July 16 in their grounds.

There was live entertainment by local artists including Ellie Beever, Chanse Whittlestone and Joe Mirelli and there was also a barbecue, children’s crafts, a bouncy castle, refreshments and stalls.

Activities co-ordinator Danielle Spencer said that the free-to-attend event was a huge success and despite the poor weather, the whole community turned up and made it a special day.

“Our residents absolutely loved it,” she said.

“We raised £1,713 for our residents fund charity.

“This will give our residents the funding to take them on special day trips or bring special entertainment in.

“It was lovely to see the old and the young mix together.

“I was really nervous to plan such a big event but it went amazing.”
