A CHARITY basketball day has raised over £1,000 for a men’s mental health charity.

Andy’s Man Club Basketball charity event was held on June 25 at Honeywell Sports Village with 60 basketball players taking part and around 200 spectators attending.

The event took place for the first time last year but organiser Dean Heseltine said interest in this year’s event had been amazing.

“We had to cap it at 60 players we had 26 last year and I even had a reserve list of people wanting to sign up to play on the day,” said Dean, who plays for Kingstone Knights in the Sheffield Basketball League.

As well as the basketball games, the event also included a giant raffle.

“We couldn’t have done it without all the support we have had from everyone including Andy’s Man Club and Honeywell Sports Village.

“It’s more than likely that this will become an annual event this is the second year we have done it and most of the players mentioned doing it again next year.”
