MORE than £8,000 was raised for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity thanks to a charity walk.
A total of 42 people travelled from Sheffield Interchange to Barnsley Interchange a 14.5-mile journey that took more than four hours of walking.
The event was organised by Harry Machan from Birdwell and David Brookes from Tankersley.
David said: “We would like to thank everyone who kindly donated to the fundraising event which raised a total of £8,111.66.
“This was a fantastic effort by everyone involved in raising this outstanding amount for a great cause.
“Never in our wildest dreams did we think that we would raise this amount of money from friends and family of the Birdwell community and surrounding areas.
“The generosity of the local people is quite overwhelming.”
The pair handed over a cheque to the charity last week and they’re already planning another.
