A LOCAL barber is urging people to dispose of their unwanted knives responsibly after he received an array of blades in recent weeks.
Tony Batty, who works at Tony’s Barber shop on Racecommon Road, has hosted a knife bin at his shop for a number of years.
When the knives are dropped off with Tony, he contacts South Yorkshire Police who collect and destroy them.
Tony sais that he has received some ‘nasty’ knives in the past and his biggest one came through the doors last week.
“I’ve been doing it for a few years now, certainly before Covid started,” he said.
“People don’t always know what to do when they want to dispose of their knives but I can have them and they dispose of them properly with the help of the police.
“The biggest knife I’ve ever received was a chopping one this week but I’ve had some nasty ones recently like switch blades.
“If the knives are disposed of correctly then that’s the most important thing.
“If people just dump them in bins or skips and they get into the wrong hands then they could end up in someone’s chest.”
Contact Tony or visit his shop if you want to dispose of your knives.
