THE family of a woman who contracted Covid-19 and died in March as a result of developing pneumonia raised £1,800 for ward 23 at Barnsley Hospital last weekend.

Kathleen Jenkinson fell ill at the beginning of March, before then having difficulty breathing and needing to be admitted to the hospital.

Sarah Allam, one of her daughters, told the Chronicle her mum’s condition ‘deteriorated rapidly’ before staff made the decision to put her on end-of-life care.

A member of Yorkshire Military Band offered to do a charity concert to raise funds for the ward, which took place on Saturday at the church on Sheffield Road.

Sarah said: “The concert was a resounding success and we raised a further £400 taking our total to just over £1,800.

“We only needed £1,300 and so have now raised enough for a new chair and will donate the rest to the hospital charity for them to use wherever it is needed.”
