A MEDIEVAL-THEMED festival that took place last weekend was a ‘massive success’ with thousands in attendance, according to its organiser.

Medieval Mayhem, which spanned Saturday and Sunday at Monk Bretton Priory, included a variety of historic-based activities including axe throwing, birds of prey, a puppet theatre and musicians.

Organiser Victoria Agnew told the Chronicle the event saw more than 5,000 people with the new Mayor of Barnsley, Coun Mick Stowe, impressed by the number of volunteers.

She said: “It was absolutely brilliant – there were so many people in attendance.

“We rely solemnly on donations and fundraising events like these to keep us going.

“The generosity of people within the local and wider community allows us to make these festivals bigger and bigger each year.

“We’re really grateful for everyone’s support and we’ll be looking forward to the next one.

“A huge thank you to every single person who came and helped.”
