STAFF at Barnsley Hospice have launched an appeal for local people to donate their time and join the hospice as a volunteer.
The hospice is currently recruiting volunteers in various roles across the hospice, retail hub and ad-hoc fundraising events.
Hospice director of human resources and organisational development, Stephen Hall, said they are keen for people to get involved and find a role to suit them.
He said: “Since before the hospice opened its doors almost 30 years ago, volunteers have been at the heart of our organisation.
“So, it’s not an overstatement to say we simply couldn’t do what we do without them.
“The Covid pandemic unfortunately meant that our volunteering opportunities became more limited, so we are delighted to be able to start looking for new recruits to join our outstanding team of existing volunteers.”
Jean Thompson-Banks, who has been volunteering at the hospice for almost 29 years, added: “Without a doubt, meeting my husband is the most important thing that has come from my time volunteering at the hospice.
“When we got married, some of our hospice colleagues shared the day with us as they have been a big part of our relationship.”
