BUNTING from 1977 is being displayed at a community garden in Hoyland today to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles.

Pauline Atkinson, Ruth Pearson’s mum, made yards of bunting for the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth which was put up on Valley Way in Hoyland 46 years ago.

Ruth had kept the bunting ever since and told her friend, Alison Richardson, a volunteer at Owd Martha’s, she still had it.

Alison asked Ruth if she could borrow the bunting for the Coronation of King Charles and put it up in Owd Martha’s to remember Pauline and link the two events years later.

Ruth said: “I was delighted to oblige and the bunting will be proudly fluttering, back in Hoyland, for the Coronation celebrations.

“Anyone who remembers my mum is welcome to join the celebrations and raise a glass to the King.”
