A CHARITY set up by a woman whose son took his own life in 2020 will have their new shop unveiled by a former rugby league player this week.
Mathew James Fullerton hanged himself aged just 38 that October after a lengthy struggle with his mental health.
His mum, Sue Nortcliff, of Little Houghton, described Mathew as a funny, clever man who had many friends, shown with hundreds of people lining the streets of Middlecliffe at his funeral.
Sue subsequently set up Mat Charity to give residents a safe place to speak with others and they’re set to open their first official charity shop tomorrow.
Former Castleford Tigers star Keith Mason, who has strong links to the charity, will be on hand to open the shop to locals.
Sue said: “When we open on Tuesday we’ll finally have a proper shop.
“We’ve taken on the shop as it has a back room which we’ll be able to use as a safe space.
“There’ll be coffee mornings and counselling sessions in there.
“I’ve got Keith coming to officially open it.”
The store will be located on Station Road in Wombwell.
