RESIDENTS are being urged to take part in the annual Penistone Boundary Walk in May..

The event, organised by Penistone Ladies Circle, is an eight or 16-mile walk around the boundary of Penistone starting from Cubley Hall.

This year, money raised from the walk will be donated to Take Heart a charity which aims to make life more comfortable for those living with a heart condition within the Yorkshire Heart Centre based at Leeds General Infirmary.

Katie Gwozdzicki, a member of the Ladies Circle who has organised this year’s walk, said they had decided to raise money for the charity after one of their friends, Kelly Wright had open heart surgery after being diagnosed with a rare congenital defect.

“This will be the first walk we’ve organised since 2019 so we’re all really looking forward to it,” Katie said.

“This year, we wanted to fundraise for Take Heart, they did an amazing job at making Kelly feel as comfortable as possible throughout her treatment.

“As well as providing furniture for wards, bedside TVs and phone calls for patients, they also provide them with a roof garden so they can sit outside and enjoy the peace.

“It’s really nice to be able to do something for someone and they are an amazing charity who rely on donations to keep them going, so we couldn’t be happier with this year’s chosen charity.”
