BARNSLEY Council is encouraging residents to stay safe during the World Cup.

They’ve shared tips on how to ensure football lovers have the best time.

A spokesperson said: “We’ve joined forces with South Yorkshire Police and our licensed premises to make sure everyone can enjoy the game safely.

“Drink responsibly and be considerate of others - they’re there to enjoy themselves too.

“Speak to our town centre wardens if you need any help.

“Don’t drink and drive - pre book your taxi and use a licensed cab to get home.

“If you find someone in a vulnerable situation, speak to bar staff or our wardens for help.”
