TAKEAWAY delivery drivers in Barnsley are being encouraged to not leave their vehicle unattended after a car was stolen in Wombwell.

Police were called on Friday night at around 10pm after a Vauxhall Corsa was stolen on Hadfield Street in Wombwell.

At 4am on the Saturday, the car was spotted on Harborough Hill Road - and 18-year-old, who was hiding in the bushes, was detained nearby.

Around half an hour later and officers once again saw the vehicle in the Wombwell area - and a pursuit led them into Darfield and Bolton-upon-Dearne.

Two 15-year-old males from Thurnscoe were detained and were also further arrested in connection with a burglary offence in Wombwell the previous weekend, where a Mercedes vehicle was stolen.

A police spokesperson added: “Takeaway delivery drivers please do not leave your car unattended with the engine running whilst making deliveries.

“This is the second time in seven days that a vehicle has been stolen from the Wombwell area under these circumstances.

“Homeowners - please ensure you lock doors to your property at all times to prevent ‘sneak in’ burglaries where car keys are taken and the vehicle subsequently stolen.

“The police are keen to deal with such offences in a prompt and effective manner and hopefully bring those responsible to justice but please do not make things easy for criminals.”
