TWO out of 20 trees planted in a Darfield field were stolen in the same day - much to the dismay of local councillors.
Barnsley Council had planted the saplings in an effort to improve Inkerman Fields on Wednesday.
But Darfield Couns Pauline Markham and Kevin Osborne, who had joined in the planting session, later discovered that two of the trees and part of the surrounding fencing had been taken.
“It was heartbreaking to discover that within hours the trees were subject to both theft and vandalism,” said Coun Markham.
“Darfield is and will be better than this.”
