HE may still be a student, but one Wombwell lad has already won big thanks to his apocalyptic short film.

Jack Dyson, 19, made the film ‘Air Time’ as part of his second-year film production degree at the University of Lincoln.

The six-minute film centres around a radio DJ who continues to present his show as the world ends around him.

Inspired by his love of apocalypse-themed films, Air Time has achieved success at not one but two film festivals.

“The idea for the film just popped into my head one day,” said Jack. “I was sat in a cafe and I thought about what I would do if the world ended at that moment, and then I gradually came up with the idea of the radio DJ.

“I wrote the first draft of the screenplay in about 12 hours – I just needed to get it all down, and I was really pleased with it.”

After careful planning, Jack was able to shoot the film in just one day and kicked off his ambitions of becoming a director.

His film has been well-received and Jack won best short film at the Pure Magic International Film Festival, held in Amsterdam, and also best director at the Bright and Boundless Film Festival.

“It’s really great that my first film has got off to a great start,” added Jack. “I never would have thought I would be able to win at two festivals while I am still at university.

“It was a really great experience, and I am really proud with how the film turned out.”
