MORE than 160,000 people across the borough have been fully vaccinated against the virus – new figures show.

The figure has risen by more than 3,400 people since September 1.

Th statistics, released by Barnsley Council, show that 41 people are receiving hospital treatment for Covid-19 – a rise of seven compared to the previous week.

Around 80 per cent of the double-vaccinated with the virus experienced mild symptoms of the disease – many of these people were being treated in hospital for separate issues and Covid was picked up through standard testing processes.

However, around 80 per cent of those who hadn't been vaccinated had severe symptoms.
