BARNSLEY Hospital has confirmed it is going digital and will bid a fond farewell to paper notes.

A dedicated team have begun scanning in patient notes onto a digital system which is encrypted and secure.

This may mean that by the end of the month, you may not see paper records at your appointment and your healthcare professional may look at their computer or handheld device more as they refer to your notes.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Hospital said: “The electronic copies of patient notes are stored on computers on site at the hospital. They are encrypted, and access to them is secure and limited to only those people who need to see them so we can provide you with the care you need.

“Staff at the Hospital are really looking forward to the introduction of electronic notes because it will make their life easier, and improve your experience of attending an appointment here.

“We have a large number of paper records in the hospital so the transition will happen over the next few months.”
