A LOCAL radio station has been awarded more than £8,000 in funding to support young people across the area.

Penistone FM received the £8,583 grant from Penistone Area Council’s Working Together Fund - and they’re using it to launch their new project, ‘Active Minds’.

The project will deliver training to young people aged between 16 and 25, which will equip them with skills around confidence building.

The training course is completely free and will run for seven weeks at a time.

A spokesperson for Penistone FM said: “Young people will get the chance to experience a professional radio studio and enjoy different elements of radio, from recording and editing audio to filming and making connections with local

volunteer groups.

“The training course will also offer the opportunity for the trainees to take part in the Active Mind Podcast where they will be able to talk about personal challenges and everyday life for young people in South Yorkshire.

“We are inviting people from across the borough who have experienced poor mental health and/or a loss of confidence in the past year to get in contact to find out more information.”
