BARNSLEY FC announced the newest member of Reds manager Markus Schopp’s backroom team last week.

Matt Cook is the new Head of Sports Science at Oakwell.

Before he entered the footballing world, Matt was leading national strength and conditioning programmes for England Squash and Paralympic Swimming.

A spokesperson for Barnsley FC added: “In 2011, Matt joined Manchester City, leading the academy sports science department, before progressing to ‘Head of Medicine and Science’ at the Etihad.

“Progressing through the City Football Group, he later moved to become first team lead performance coach at New York City FC in the MLS.

“Most recently, Matt spent two years in OGC Nice, working with Patrick Viera in Ligue 1, leading all physical preparation and rehabilitation strategies.”
