A PENSIONER and Barnsley Hospice trustee is cycling his age every day for a fortnight as he travels across the country in a bid to raise cash for the charity.
John Pitt, 71, has set out to complete the 1,000-mile Land’s End to John O’Groats route and has challenged himself to finish the it in just 14 days – averaging 71 miles each day.
“Barnsley Hospice is a much-loved community institution doing crucial work to support local people who have life-limiting conditions as well as their families and those close to them,” said John, from Cawthorne.
“The staff have been flat-out providing care and support during the Covid pandemic but fundraising has been adversely affected with events and income opportunities severely reduced.
“I am hoping to raise vital funds to help the hospice carry on with its crucial work at this very challenging time.”
He set off on his challenge on Sunday and hopes to complete the ride on July 3.
