A PENISTONE man has put his own spin on a well-known charity challenge as he aims to run 105 kilometres this month to raise funds for the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team.

Jon Gilbert, 41, of High Street, is raising money for the group as part of Penistone Round Table’s mission to send over £5,000 this summer.

To complete his ‘Couch to 105km’ challenge Jon will have to run around 3.5km every single day – and he’ll be spending much of his time in fancy dress.

He said: “At Penistone Round Table we’re trying to raise money for some good causes and one of the charities we chose was Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team.

“A friend of mine in the round table had an experience with them which is why we’re going to try and raise £5,000.

“I’ve seen some people doing the couch to 5km challenge so I thought I’d do it with 105km over this month.

“I’m going to run around 3.5km everyday with my son in a pushchair and the route we take is around half an hour – I’ll be wearing fancy dress sometimes to spice it up as well.”

Jon is aiming to raise around £200 to go towards the overall go – and the support he has received so far has been ‘amazing’.

“I’m delighted with the donations so far,” he added.

“People tend to like a bit of silliness and that’s exactly what this is – I was going around yesterday dressed as Yogi Bear and I got some funny looks which was priceless.”
